Troop Reports

Canoeing – May 2024

In May, our troop had planned an exciting overnight canoe trip on the Colorado River between Austin and Bastrop. However, Mother Nature had different plans, as impending storms on Saturday night forced us to pivot from the original campout plan. Instead of canceling the adventure, the troop adapted and embarked on a day canoe trip on the same river, launching from Bastrop and paddling downstream. This change in plans proved to be a great opportunity for the scouts to focus on learning and enjoying the day on the water.

Bushcraft – April 2024

April brought on our traditional Bushcraft Campout—a favorite among the scouts—to a beautiful private ranch west of Austin, where the bluebonnets were in full bloom. This year, the older scouts took the lead, using their years of experience to teach essential bushcraft skills to the younger members. They set up multiple stations where scouts could learn navigation and orientation, water filtering, shelter building with lashings and knots, and first aid. It was a fantastic opportunity for the younger scouts to learn valuable outdoor skills and for the older scouts to step up as leaders and mentors.

Team Building – March 2024

In March, Troop 410 gathered at Lake Georgetown for a campout focused on team building and skill development. The weekend was filled with engaging activities designed to strengthen teamwork and communication among the scouts. One of the highlights was the construction of a rope bridge, where the scouts put their knot-tying and lashing skills to the test. Working together to build a sturdy bridge was not only a fun challenge but also a great way for the scouts to practice problem-solving and cooperation, demonstrating the true spirit of scouting.

Camporee – February 2024

In February, our troop participated in the District Camporee, an exciting weekend where multiple scout troops came together to showcase their skills, compete in friendly challenges, and enjoy the camaraderie of the scouting community. The camporee was filled with fun scout activities, a bit of competition, and lots of opportunities for teamwork. Our troop had a blast running a superhero-themed station, where scouts from various troops brainstormed their best superhero powers, designed their look, and then brought them to life using random supplies and plenty of duct tape! Creativity was on full display as scouts collaborated and strategized, proving that imagination and teamwork can truly make anything possible.

Patrol Campout – February 2024

In February, Troop 410 Scouts took part in the annual Patrol Campouts, where each patrol plans and executes their own outdoor adventure. This year, the Ravens and Cyclops patrols teamed up for an exciting backpacking campout at Lake Georgetown. The scouts hiked over 6 miles round trip, testing their endurance and honing their backpacking skills. They planned and prepared their own backpacking meals, packed their gear, and carried both their personal loads and shared patrol equipment into the backcountry. It was a great opportunity for the scouts to experience the challenges and rewards of backpacking while working together to support each other.
