Barbarian Invasion
October Barbarian Invasion Campout
This October we did something a little bit different than usual as the Scouts journeyed to the beautiful Poulos Ranch for the Barbarian Invasion Campout.
The Troop split into two groups, the Greeks and the Romans. In the first part of the day the Greeks did a conservation project where they cleared a path to the river and the Romans set up a fort that would later protect a colored egg made for each Scout and then they would switch. The Romans made a plain stick fort, but the Greeks made a fort out of not just sticks but spars, stones, and even a tire and a shopping cart. In the second half the groups went their separate ways again going to either the axe yard to throw siege weapons or to build trebuchets to launch food at the other teams fort.
We also had our monthly meetings. One notable meeting was the mini court of honor, where many Scouts earned ranks and merit badges. Older Scouts also presented topics like fire safety, food safety, orienteering, and, for the occasion of the campout, Barbarian Siege Weapons.
Most Scouts can agree that the best part of the campout was the trebuchet launching, which was, in fact, very fun. Also, Scouts can agree that the best part of the campfire was when Scouts and Scouters made jokes about rocks.
