Swimming the Narrows
Troop 410 Campout Report – Swimming the Narrows (May 2025)
This May, Troop 410 went on an awesome campout to The Narrows, and the main theme was swimming with a dutch over cookoff! It was a hot weekend, so jumping into the cold water was the perfect way to cool off. We had a lot of fun swimming up the river, exploring deep pools, and even diving under some underwater arches. The water was freezing, but that made it even more exciting!
While we were there, some Scouts worked on rank advancement, and a couple of them earned their Second Class rank—great job to them! We also practiced water rescue, which was a good skill to learn while we were already in the water.
One of the best parts of the campout was the dutch over cook off and getting to have a real campfire. Because of droughts, we don’t usually get to have fires, so this was really special. Everyone hung out around the fire telling stories and just enjoying the night. It was a great way to end a fun day.
Troop Meetings – May Highlights
In May, our meetings were busy with getting ready for summer. At the start of the month, Scouts going to Camp Alexander talked about what to pack and picked out the merit badges they wanted to work on. Our Philmont crew had their final prep meeting too, where they checked their gear and looked over the maps one more time.
On May 12th, we had a Mini Court of Honor to recognize Scouts who ranked up or finished merit badges. We also held Troop elections, and after all that, we had fun building a Jenga tower with cups—it got pretty tall before it fell!
Later in the month, we had a meeting where we talked about the 4th of July Parade and then split up into groups to clean out the Troop shed and trailer to get ready for summer. We ended the night with a game of Mushroom Ball and enjoyed a super tasty Dutch oven dessert that Josh made during the meeting.
Looking Ahead
We’re all getting excited for summer camp and Philmont! May was a great month full of fun adventures, good food, and getting things ready for even bigger trips coming up.
